It’s about that time of the year where we go through our closet and decide we need to get rid of some things so we can purchase more for the new year. Recently, I have been downsizing the amount of clothing I’ve been buying and realizing what I ACTUALLY where.
Depending on your aesthetic/personal style it should be something you stick for all your pieces. Something might look pretty on the mannequin or that new collection at Free People may be totally cute, but is it really you?
Personally, I stick to neutrals. Black, White, Gray, Nude and more Black.
Therefore, it sounds easy to stick to a color palette of neutrals at any store because everyone makes something in black, but double check the quality of these pieces that you find at cheaper stores.
There are items that you may need to wear everyday or for certain weather conditions that are worth investing in for the quality you’ll get.
A good coat is worth investing in for the purpose of it being your shell during the colder months.
Where I live, you experience cold temperatures from November through March and you NEED a coat.
I bought this black Boyfriend styled coat from Topshop. It has faux fur on the collar (I took the fur off) but without it, this jacket was the style I was looking for.
Types of coats to invest in and have:
- Wool Coat
- Puffer Coat
- Leather Jacket
I always suggest investing in your basic pieces, or else you’ll end up with many cheap pieces that you will probably only wear once or twice.
Here’s a challenge. Go look in your closet. How many Black T-shirts do you have? How many pairs of leggings? 5? 10? 20?
I used to do that I would think Forever 21 has T-shirts for $5! Thats great! And the thinking was well if it rips or something it was only $5
I’ve come to realize how much easier it is to buy one good Black and/or White T-Shirt. It will last forever and will be more comfortable and overall look better.
The Vince Little Boy T-Shirt is one that I’ve known to be one of the best T-shirts out there. $75 sounds like a lot but try counting how many times you wear it. If you wear it at least once a week for a year thats more wears per dollar spent! At least it’s how I look at it.
The same goes for a good pair of leggings. I wear leggings all the time sometimes almost everyday. They’re comfortable and go with almost everything. Therefore, if you wear leggings a lot maybe buy a couple pairs.
These are the High Waisted Cotton Spandex Jersey Legging from American Apparel. $28
How many shoes does a girl need? A pair of running sneakers in every color, every color converse, boots, sandals, flip flops, wedges, heels??
My advice sticks through the whole wardrobe. Neutrals.
Get yourself a good pair of running sneakers. They are meant for walking
and running in and bearing the wear and tear of every day so it’s a good idea to invest in a good pair that will last you a long time.
